Web 2.0 technologies are revolutionizing the way in which instructors engage and interact with students online. Through RSS syndication, instructors are automating the delivery of learning objects to the students. Through Web 2.0 applications a whole host of new ways to engage and interact with students has emerged. Wikis, blogs, podcasts, interactive whiteboards, VoIP, tagging, image sharing, discussion rooms, and many more learning tools are freely available to educators.

Currently the management of this process is changing in response to the growing array of social networks that have created new paths for communicating and sharing information and have become a vital part of the online learning environment. Social media is not a buzzword, and institutions can no longer afford to exclude social media from online marketing strategies. A growing number of colleges and universities are using social media as an integral component of their marketing strategy because they realize marketing is not a marketer-led, one-way form of communication, but a student-led, two-way dialogue.

Graduate students Abram Fox, Brighton Hanson, Suzy Hwang, and Lara Yeager will be presenting conference papers at the annual Classical Association of the Atlantic States conference in Wilmington, Delaware.

 Their papers derived from Dr. Marjorie Venit's seminar on Imagery of Greek Death and the Afterlife held in Fall 2008 in the department. 

"The Forgotten Generation: The First Generation of Spanish Immigrants in Hamburg, Germany (2006)"

Arrival of Spanish "Guest workers" in the 1950s in Hamburg, Germany & their settlement history.

*Hernán Bravo Varela (Mexico City, 1979), poet, translator and
non-fiction writer, has authored three poetry books and two collections
of literary essays. Bravo Varela has received four fellowships from the
National Council for Culture and Fine Arts and from the Mexican
Literature Foundation. In 1999, he won the National Prize for Younger
Poets. Part of his work has been translated to English, French and German.

*Alejandro Tarrab (Mexico City, 1972), poet and non-fiction writer, has
a Masters degree in Literature at the National University (UNAM). He has
authored two poetry books: /Siete Cantáridas /and /Centauros/. He has
been included in several anthologies and participated in various
national and international poetry festivals. In 2004, Tarrab received a
fellowship from the National Council for Culture and Fine Arts.

Students will learn techniques for analyzing and manipulating data in Excel 2007. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Customize toolbars and create styles and templates.
• Create decision-making functions.
• Analyze worksheet data by creating pivot tables.
• Compare and contrast workbook files and file links.
• Outline and consolidate worksheets; analyze worksheet data by using the Scenario Manager.
• Display and protect worksheet data by locking cells.
• Record and modify macros by using the Visual Basic Editor.
• Create and work with interactive Web documents.

Prerequisites: Intermediate competency with the Excel tool (e.g., working with charts and chart sheets, sorting, filtering and querying data).
