Program Information
Seminars for Teachers (SFT) offers content-based seminars that provide K-12 teachers the opportunity to engage in scholarly discussion with university faculty and colleagues. The program offers a number of seminars each semester in the humanities, arts, and sciences. Together, university faculty and teachers from both private and public schools in the DC metropolitan area expand their knowledge, share ideas, and engage in stimulating conversation.
The value of SFT not only affects the participating teachers, but also extends to the schools and districts. Teachers gain renewed energy for their classrooms, which benefits their students immediately. Moreover, as the program attracts dedicated and creative professionals, there are many possibilities for sharing the content and resources from the seminars with colleagues and other groups within their communities.
Seminar Logistics
Seminars take place during the week and are held on the University's College Park campus. Seminars begin at 9:00 am and run until 3:00 pm. Breakfast and lunch are provided.
The locations of each seminar will vary, so teachers should refer to the welcome packet for the room assignment. Parking is available at one of two visitor parking garages on campus: the Stamp Student Union Garage or the Mowatt Lane Garage. Participants should refer to the campus map in the welcome packet or on the university website for more information. The program is unable to cover parking costs.
Program Support
The program is funded through partnering schools and counties as well as through the College of Arts and Humanities and the Office of the Provost at the University of Maryland.
